“There is only one ecological candidacy”, assures Julien Bayou, national secretary of EELV

“The campaign is starting, don’t worry”, assured Friday January 7 on franceinfo the national secretary of Europe Ecology-The Greens (EELV) Julien Bayou, while Yannick Jadot is credited with only 8% of voting intentions for the first round of the presidential election in an Ipsos-Sopra Steria poll for franceinfo. “You will certainly have different nominations on the left, but only one environmental nomination.”

franceinfo: Your candidate Yannick Jadot has 8% of voting intentions in the first round in the Ipsos-Sopra Steria poll conducted for franceinfo. Why is this campaign not taking off?

Julien Bayou: It starts up, don’t worry. You have the extreme right candidates; conservative candidacies since there are two candidacies from the right, those of Valérie Pécresse and Emmanuel Macron, which is an open secret; and you will certainly have different candidates on the left or on the far left. On the other hand, there is only one ecological candidacy. There are therefore three projects on the table: reactionaries, conservatives and ecology, which is ultimately the new progressivism because it is what responds to the challenges of the 21st century, which are climate change and the fight against inequalities. .

If Christiane Taubira launches, she is credited today with 3% of voting intentions and Yannick Jadot loses two points. Is it union or division?

It seemed to me that she had confirmed that she did not want to add a candidacy and that she was looking for the means of the gathering. We’ll see what she decides, but that’s not my topic. I do not know the proposals of Arnaud Montebourg or Christiane Taubira on taxation and on ecological transition. We organized a primary with Yannick Jadot, Delphine Batho, Sandrine Rousseau and Eric Piolle to decide between them around a project. This project is coherent and clear; Yannick Jadot’s positions are constant. There will be a green “Yannick Jadot” bulletin in 2022 when the dust settles. Today, there are a lot of putative candidacies which will not necessarily go to the end.

Despite the controversy triggered by his comments on the unvaccinated, Emmanuel Macron is always given the lead in our survey …

The problem is, he’s looking for a diversion. I blame him for damaging the function. A president shouldn’t talk like that. The president must be the guarantor of harmony. We have a tired society after eighteen months of the pandemic and to hide its inaction on the lifting of vaccine patents and that it and previous governments have weakened the hospital, they are choosing scapegoats and the easy way. You will not have protection of the population, a vaccine strategy that works, if we leave pockets of poverty in Mexico, in Africa or elsewhere, where these variants can develop. We call for the patents to be freed and for France to stop its hypocrisy of saying “yes” on the front lines, but to activate behind the scenes to protect the profits of these pharmaceutical laboratories.
