There is no question of eliminating state medical aid“, assured Élisabeth Borne this Wednesday on France Inter. The Prime Minister explains “having negotiated for hours” to keep important measures in the eyes of the government, during the drafting of the immigration law, adopted Tuesday evening by Parliament. State medical aid (AME) was one of these measures that the head of government safeguarded.

A reform of the AME discussed in 2024

I negotiated for hours to keep the important measures for us“, added the head of government, repeating that “there is no question of removing the AME. We will keep it. We removed from the Senate text the measure which made the AME disappear in favor of a system that does not suit us“.

The Republicans have indeed agreed to renounce the abolition of the AME. In return, the Prime Minister promised the President of the Senate a reform of the system at the start of 2024, in a letter addressed to Gérard Larcher that franceinfo was able to consult late Tuesday afternoon.
