“There is no more water”, alert on franceinfo, Sunday June 9, Philippe Bonnet, director of emergencies for the NGO Solidarités International in Gaza. “We have a few liters of water per day, per person, water that is salty […] not drinkable.”

Philippe Bonnet returns from Gaza, where he is trying, among other things, with Solidarités International to resupply the Palestinian population with drinking water. The NGO installed a first water desalination plant in the center of the Gaza Strip, near Al-Aqsa hospital. The treated water supplies six taps which give Gazans access to drinking water. “Others are being rehabilitated because there are many stations in the area which no longer operate due to lack of energy or which have been damaged by the fighting. So we’re trying to get them working again.”

But for this, we need means and above all the possibility of bringing the materials to Gaza, a task made complicated by Israeli blockades. “There is a vital need for fuel, to install solar panels, to repair leaks, to put back in place the membranes and filters which allow the water to be desalinated to provide drinking water to the population.”

“Yesterday, we had to stop all our activities because the teams were taking refuge in the basements of houses because of the bombings”deplores Philippe Bonnet.
