“There is insecurity in Muret and urban violence” says an opposition municipal councilor

What’s going on in Muret? The inhabitants of the northern districts of the fourth city of Haute-Garonne (25,000 inhabitants) bear witness to scenes of incivility
daily. Constables attacked on Halloween night
and he there were exchanges of gunfire three times in August. Socialist Mayor André Mandement tells us: “There is no problem of insecurity in Muret (…) the figures given by the gendarmerie are clearly improving, but it’s like the weather there is the real temperature and the temperature felt”. But Samuel Didomenico, Renaissance opposition municipal councilor, does not have the same speech. He was the guest of France Bleu Occitanie this Thursday, November 3 at 8 a.m.

“The mayor is in complete denial”

For him “yes, there is a problem of insecurity in Muret, which is a global problem of insecurity in France and in Muret too. The mayor is in denial (when he says the opposite editor’s note). He regrets that the mayor does not think of the victims” and denounces the “daily drug dealing”.

He also considers that it is necessary to speak “urban riots__. We had several hours of clashes between a group and gendarmes with mortar fire, and this is the first time that this has happened. I believe that we should not be afraid of simple words and talk about urban violence. We have more than 50 people against about twenty gendarmes for several hours, knowing that it starts with an ambush since the gendarmes were called voluntarily. “

“We put little money to fight against insecurity”

So how can this violence be explained? “Muret is a city which is overtaken by demography since it is now a city of 25,000 inhabitants, in an urban center which is the fourth largest in France (that of Toulouse).” And he adds: “In Muret, 9 police officers are provided for in the 2022 budget, as in the 2021 budget. There were 11 in 2020, 10 in 2017. We have a number of municipal police officers that has been stable for five years.” And when we oppose him that to recruit police officers, you need money, Samuel Didomenico recognizes it, “But there is money in Muret. We have a municipal budget that is well managed. We cannot take that away from the mayor. But he chooses to put little on security.” Example ? “The operating expenses of the city of Muret are 21 million euros per year, 2.6% of which are devoted to security. In 2022, we voted for investment expenses a budget of 29 million euros, including 59,000 euros for security, or 0.2%. Money there is, these are simply choices.
