The attack of nearly 200 Iranian missiles on Israel, which occurred on Tuesday October 2, raises questions about a possible conflagration in the region. Hubert Védrine, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, gave an interview on the complex situation in the Middle East during the 8 p.m. news.

After the strikes which hit the Jewish state, the conflict seems to be entering a new phase. However, is a more widespread war to be feared? “The Iranian regime could not not react. They reacted harshly but not to the maximum (…) There is escalation yes, general war, no”comments former Minister of Foreign Affairs Hubert Védrine.

“France can say honorable things, (…) it can be present but we have no leverage to force Netanyahu into a truce and convince him of a two-state solution… But the question is not not just for France”. Indeed, Hubert Védrine also returned to the role of the United States in this conflict: “Biden’s fear is really to avoid this spiral.”
