“There is obviously an existential danger for Jews in having the National Rally in power,” alerted Monday June 17 on franceinfo Samuel Lejoyeux, president of the Union of Jewish Students of France while the historian Serge Klarsfeld, defender of the cause of Jewish deportees from France, announced that he will vote RN in the second round of the legislative elections in the event of a duel with La France insoumise.
“He falls into a trap”, reacts Samuel Lejoyeux, but, in “I see this declaration above all as a symbol of the immense distress in which the Jews find themselves today in the context of these legislative elections.” “There is a dynamic of anti-Semitism” in France, he explains. But, according to him, Serge Klarsfeld’s position “is very serious”, because “it’s a moral fault” And “also a political fault because I believe that there is obviously an existential danger for the Jews in having the National Rally in power”he said.
Regularly accused of anti-Semitism by associations of Jews in France after positions taken on the conflict between Israel and Hamas, Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s party defends itself by explaining that no LFI member has been convicted of anti-Semitism. Samuel Lejoyeux believes that the left also “by allying with these anti-Semites (yes, I qualify them as such), loses a sort of moral magisterium on anti-Semitism.” He points to the “hazard” of the RN “for the future of Jews in France. Obviously their DNA, obviously their heritage, but also their program”, he continued. “We are faced with two blocs which, ultimately, endanger the serenity of the Jews,” he assures.
Words which echo those of Kylian Mbappé who called on young people to vote to fight extremes during a press conference in Germany as part of Euro football. Samuel Lejoyeux greeted “taking a position” from the Blues striker. “In a moment like this, all the people who can have an impact and who can get young people and the entire population to vote are good signals”he said.
