“There is a real shift of consumers towards entry-level products”declared Friday April 29 on franceinfo Jacques Creyssel, general delegate of the Federation of commerce and distribution (FCD), while inflation continued to accelerate in April in France to reach 4.8% over one year.

“Everyone is very careful”observes Jacques Creyssel. “There is very clearly an evolution in this direction and we think that it will increase and accelerate in the coming weeks.”

The delegate general of the Fédération du commerce et de la distribution explains that “pasta is the product that has increased the most”with “an overall 13% increase in the price of pasta since the beginning of the year.”

According to him, large retailers have room for maneuver “extremely weak” on prices: “It’s around 1%, that is to say that on a basket of 50 euros, we receive 50 cents. However, everyone is making an effort because we need our customers to be able to find products at the best price.”
