“There is a real discussion” with La France insoumise with a view to finding an agreement for the legislative elections, assured Olivier Faure, first secretary of the Socialist Party, guest Sunday May 1 of “Political Questions” on France Inter, franceinfo and Le Monde. For their part, environmentalists believe that we “is still in the dark” and the Communists consider the proposals of La France insoumise insufficient. “If we have the claim to govern tomorrow, we must agree on the substance to be able to govern this country for five years and not simply be in a form of electoral grub. Governing is serious. This supposes that we can go back in detail on each point and ask ourselves if we can agree.

The socialists have “suspended” Friday the negotiations with LFI to clarify certain requirements of Jean-Luc Mélenchon, in particular on Europe. “Sometimes the Insoumis have very strong words covering realities that can be shared but which suppose that we really understand each other”, explained Olivier Faure. The First Secretary of the PS ensures that “this work has begun” and that it will continue “in the next few hours”.
Jean-Luc Mélenchon wants a majority in the National Assembly to govern and puts forward the idea of partial disobedience to the European treaties. “I do not want the term disobedience to be included in our common platform. We are not Frexitors”assured Olivier Faure.
“We challenge the concept of disobedience because it amounts to implying that it is a principle and that one is disobedient by nature.

However, he says he wants “to put Europe in tension” on subjects “social and environmental”. “So this may mean temporarily objecting to rules that are set by the European Union.” Jean-Luc Mélenchon affirms that he can sit on certain treaties. A position that Olivier Faure does not share. “I’m not saying sit down, I’m saying that we sometimes put Europe in tension. We don’t have 80 years ahead of us but immediate objectives. But I am a convinced European and I have no desire to put an end to this immense adventure.”
Negotiate, “not a disappearance” for the PS
Olivier Faure also returned to the words of François Hollande, who judged Thursday on franceinfo “unacceptable” an agreement between the two parties. “Discussing is necessary; disappearing is impossible”had then launched the former socialist president. “If François Hollande comes to negotiate with Jean-Luc Mélenchon he will see that it is not a question of the disappearance of anyone and that no one submits to anyone”affirmed the current First Secretary of the PS.
While François Hollande judged that the program proposed by the Union propulaire “is a questioning of the very history of socialism”Olivier Faure ensures on the contrary that there is “a desire to jointly achieve a project that reconnects with the great history of the left, that of the conquests. I do not really see what he can blame”.
The First Secretary of the PS considered that the union of the left was the only solution. “What’s plan B? Does that mean it’s better to let Emmanuel Macron govern? We’re all going to divide, we’ve done it before and we’ve seen what it looks like. We can go on like this and give the liberals another five, ten or fifteen years to continue to unravel what we have achieved.”
