Théo Curin is not at his first attempt in comedy. In 2017, the swimming champion took part in the adventure Cloakroomsbefore landing a role in the series More beautiful life. In the Marseille program, he played Hugo, a disabled teenager, amputated of the four limbs. It is also the character (Sam Belek) that he interprets in Handigang, the TV movie broadcast this Monday, May 2 on TF1 in which he gives the reply to Alessandra Sublet. The future ex-host plays Nina, Sam’s mother, who is worried about the relentless fight for the inclusion of the disabled in society. A role in which Théo Curin gave himself body and soul.
His handicap, the 22-year-old swimmer did not know about it until he was 6 years old. At the time, the young boy contracted serious bacterial meningitis, causing him necrosis leading to the amputation of his legs and arms. He also mentions his illness in Handigang, when he meets a new student with cystic fibrosis. There followed two years of rehabilitation to learn to live with prostheses. If the blow is difficult to take, Theo ends up fighting. It was only after meeting Philippe Croizon – he swam across the English Channel without arms or legs – that Théo Curin literally threw himself into the water to learn to swim, set records and prove that we can go far anyway.
In sixteen years, Théo Curin has therefore succeeded in the challenge he set himself: to remain independent despite the health problems that have befallen him. He has not only won several medals at World and European Disabled Sports Championships, but is gradually asserting himself in the cultural world. This entry as an artist allowed him to meet the sparkling Alessandra Sublet.
Alphonse and Charlie’s mother gives up television. After years on the small screen, Alessandra Sublet therefore decided to stay there, but no longer as a host: “This new challenge thrilled me. Then I wondered if I still felt as much pleasure on a TV set. At 45, I can’t continue hosting if my heart beats less. I prefer to take a real risk to try different projects” she confided. It remains to be seen whether her first steps as an actress will convince viewers!
