The “Les Expressifs” festival has returned to the streets of Poitiers, after two years disrupted by the Covid. From October 6 to 9, 230 artists and 41 companies perform between Place Charles de Gaulle and Place du Maréchal Leclerc. Theatre, dance, storytelling, emerging music: there is something for everyone and the people of Poitevin are there.
A few minutes before the start of the show of man D, of the company “Frichti Concept”, the crowd begins to gather in front of the town hall. Then Brendan Le Delliou, his real name, begins his show combining dance, street theater and poetry. Show in motion, political and sometimes crazy.
The D Man: A Show About Free Will
It all starts calmly, he plays a man in a suit, stressed by his appointment at 5 p.m., “pile“, he repeats many times. More than 100 people watch him, the crowd is attentive. The music, soft. He suddenly chooses to live his life according to the results of a coin toss or heads, then according to the results of a dice. After kissing a spectator, by chance, he calls on the public to follow him and “get out of the frame“.
150 people set off and follow him through the streets of the city for an hour. The wandering is impressive. At the crossroads, the public must choose between “left” and “right“, before the leadership was derided in a political skit.”And how is the center?“, asks man D, turning his pelvis. Later, he makes his audience repeat a slogan and, to catchy music, leads everyone into what looks like a demonstration. Passers-by are taken aback.
“It’s amazing, really”
“It’s great, the messages pass on politics, the environment“, says Dany, who came with her granddaughter and was seduced by the show. “It’s incredible, really_”, we hear in the crowd. The show ends an hour later, place Alphonse Lepetit, where a huge dice is settled in. The applause lasts.
“I am very happy and very moved“, says man D at the end of his performance. “When there are a lot of people like that, there is a relationship with people that is fabulous. I know why I do this“, continues the artist, who had already come to the festival “Les Expressifs” with another work a few years ago.
Man D’s show is scheduled again at 4 p.m. on Sunday from the Town Hall. From 2 p.m., jazz lovers will be able to listen to the Fan’art de rut and theater enthusiasts attend performances by the “La Débordante” company, at 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. All programming is available here
