Singer Amir, who represented France at Eurovision in 2016, is taking his first steps in the theater. It is in the Edouard VII room in Paris, from April 26, that Amir Haddad revive Alfred Nakachea swimming champion who survived the death camps.
He is a successful singer. He made his theater debut. Amir is ready to take the plunge. When we are on stage, we are “moved, and I feel like I’m on the edge of a swimming pool. The stage is high, and often we illuminate the audience with a blue light to get into the mood of Alfred’s story”says Amir. Alfred, it’s Alfred Nakachea swimmer with a tragic career that he interprets on stage. In the 1930s, Alfred Nakache is a pool star. But at the start of the war, he loses his job, because he is Jewish. He fled to the free zone, then was deported to Auschwitz in 1943.
His wife and daughter die in the camps. Alfred Nakache, he survives. Back in France, he resumed swimming. “He will succeed in regaining his strength and going from an ersatz human being who weighs 39 kilos, to again becoming world champion and participating in the Olympic Games again”says comedian and singer Amir Haddad. “We never prepared me for that role, playing a Holocaust survivor on stage. (…) It gives meaning, it gives a lot of body to what we do”he says. A necklace accompanies Amir Haddad, “which brings together several pendants that have been offered to me by people who are dear to me. I have my wedding ring, very precious, and a Star of David pendant for protection”he confides.
