We no longer speak of summer theatre, but of “summer theatre”, so much has its model changed over the past few years. Overview of half a dozen shows to follow.

King Dave on reminder
Revival of the excellent piece by Alexandre Goyette King Dave, at Duceppe, from June 16 to 19 and June 22. Actor Patrick Emmanuel Abellard will take on the role of the antihero imagined by Goyette, a young man who sinks into the spiral of petty crime between Anjou, Saint-Michel and Montreal North. The staging is by Christian Fortin. In addition, Duceppe also offers an additional short story of I love Hydroon August 4 at the Théâtre Maisonneuve.
To change life
A new play by author Catherine Léger (Baby sitter), whose theme is the quest for happiness, will be presented in Boisbriand in a production of the Petit Théâtre du Nord. The creation will be defended by a strong quartet of performers: Ariel Ifergan, Marilou Morin, Étienne Pilon and Mélanie St-Laurent. The staging is by Sébastien Gauthier, who provides (with Luc Bourgeois and Mélanie St-Laurent) the artistic direction of this company dedicated to creative theater in the Lower Laurentians. On view, starting June 23, at the Center de création de Boisbriand.
At the Institute and Symphorian
The versatile Michel Charette is collaborating again with his friend François Chénier this summer. He co-signs with him the text and the staging of the play At the Institute. Presented at the Théâtre des Hirondelles, in Saint-Mathieu-de-Belœil, this comedy described as “zany, light and incredible” features five talented actors: Henri Chassé, Stéphane Jacques, France Parent, Marc-St-Martin and Joëlle Paré-Beaulieu. The play evokes the unforeseen and the reversals that occur within a psychiatric institute, hence its title. François Chénier will not be unemployed this summer, since he also plays the main role of the comedy Symphorianat the Théâtre du Vieux-Terrebonne, starting June 29. At the Institute is on view from June 17 to August 28 at the Théâtre des Hirondelles.
eight women on tour
Postponed in 2020 and in 2021, the tour of eight women finally takes off this summer. It will stop at the Théâtre de Rougemont and at the Patriote in Sainte-Agathe. This detective comedy by Robert Thomas, adapted by Michel Tremblay, is directed by Alain Zouvi. An Agatha Christie story carried by eight actresses, including Josée Beaulieu, Louise Deschâtelets, Pascale Desrochers and Myriam Poirier. From July 7 to August 6 (at the Théâtre de Rougemont) and from August 11 to 20 (at the Théâtre Le Patriote).
Anne
The highly demanded Serge Denoncourt directs the musical Anne, for Just for Laughs productions, starting June 22 at Théâtre St-Denis. The young interpreter Kayla Tucker will play the young orphan, supported by Ange-Élie Ménard. Also starring: David Savard as millionaire Oliver Warbucks, Véronique Claveau, Geneviève Alarie, Kevin Houle, Émily Bégin, Nico Archambault, among others. From June 2 to July 17 at St-Denis, in Montreal, then at the Albert-Rousseau hall in Quebec, from August 12 to 28.
The stupid dinner
Postponed twice due to the health crisis, the comedy by Francis Veber The stupid dinner will be presented at the Maison des arts Desjardins in Drummondville in July and August. Laurent Paquin defends the role of the naive civil servant François Pignon, while Normand D’Amour embodies his malevolent host. René Simard, Pascale Montreuil, Gabrielle Fontaine and Bernard Fortin complete the cast. André Robitaille is directing. With its production company Monarque, Robitaille also presents on tour Neighborsby Claude Meunier and Louis Saïa, as well as the play The big turn by Mario Jean, directed by Pierre-François Legendre.
Lady of the Heart Theater
The Dame de Coeur Theater in Upton is presenting a new production for the family entitled Victor and the Gift of Dreams, a text by Marilyn Perreault. The play tells the story of an ambitious young man who, on his birthday, will meet in his dreams a ruddy hamster who wants to help him succeed in his life. Victor’s magician grandmother will make sure to avoid the worst. A show “exploded and magical”, according to the director, Richard Blackburn. From 1er July.
