Will it soon be possible to pay for purchases using the palm of your hand? Romain Colnet, innovation manager at Ingenico, presents this new technology on the 12/13 info set, Monday March 25.

Romain Colnet is head of innovation at Ingenico, the French company developing technology allowing purchases to be made using the palm of the hand. “It’s with [le] venous diagram. We go inside the hand, which is the safest possible in terms of biometrics”he introduced Monday March 25 during his appearance on the set of 12/13 info. “When your blood leaves your heart, it is depleted of oxygen. With infrared light, it will appear dark and we will be able to analyze your venous pattern, which is unique, to assign points. From its points, we will create a sequence of numbers when leaving the payment terminal”he continues.

The concept of consent

All you have to do is position your hand above the terminal to pay. Romain Colnet explains that the company favored the vein diagram over fingerprints for several reasons. First, the area inside the hand is “extremely safe” and cannot be falsified, just as it is very secure “in terms of biometrics”. Finally, it highlights the notion of consent. “Facial recognition, you go in front of a camera, it’s quite difficult to obtain consent”he notes.
