Inspectors from theinternational atomic energy agency arrived at the nuclear power plant in Zaporizhia. A presence that delights the Russians but much less the Ukrainians. Maryse Burgot was live from Zaporijia on Friday September 2 to take stock of the situation.
In Ukrainian territory, but controlled by Russian troops, the Zaporijia nuclear power plant is at the heart of Western concerns. In order to control the plant, inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) arrived in the area. A decision that delights Moscow, but much less kyiv. “The Russians generally consider it very positive that IAEA inspectors can work in the plant”relates Maryse Burgot, live from Zaporijia.
Unlike Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine, who “regrets that the experts did not ask that this territory of the nuclear power plant be completely demilitarized. According to him, this would be the solution for more security”, adds Maryse Burgot. A utopian request, because it is difficult to imagine the Russian military leaving the area and the plant. The presence of experts did not calm things down “since tonight, officially, the Ukrainians say that they hit ammunition and artillery pieces in the city of Energodar, precisely where the nuclear power plant is located.”
