Tuesday, April 12, the 20 Hours features the Yukon Race, the world’s toughest sled dog race, which connects Canada to Alaska.

On the land of the Yukon (Canada), at the gates of the Arctic Circle, an icy wind blows. Only the most seasoned take part in the Yukon Quest, the toughest dog sled race in the world. From the Yukon to Alaska, they travel 1,600 km with temperatures reaching -50°C. Sébastien Dos Santos Borges is one of the only French people to take part in this race. He trained in the Alps for several months. The dogs are massaged before departure. “They are athletes”says Lisa Maerten, a member of Sébastien Dos Santos Borges’ team.

All the inhabitants come to support the participants before departure. The route of the race follows the route of the gold rush in the 1890s. The path, strewn with obstacles, puts men and dogs to the test. During the race, Sébastien Dos Santos Borges takes care of the dogs: he makes them sleep on the straw and puts them in little coats.
