It was on March 2, 2022 that Jean-Pierre Pernaut finally bowed out. Battling lung cancer that finally killed him at the age of 71, the star presenter of TF1, in love with the French terroir, left many loyal viewers of his 1 p.m. newspaper inconsolable. But also a family completely devastated with grief. His wife first, Nathalie Marquay-Pernaut as well as his four children, Julia and Olivier, born of his first union with Dominique Bonnet then Lou and Tom, his last two, fruits of his love with the former Miss France. For nearly a year, through the media and social networks, we have felt that the work of mourning seems almost impossible for this family, so united, so close-knit, still living in the cruel absence of the journalist. Usually discreet, it was the youngest child of Jean-Pierre Pernaut who held, in the columns of Gala, to pay tribute to his father but also to express his immense sorrow. “JI still have so much trouble understanding that he is no longer there. When I’m alone in the evening, after my classes, I often think of him, and sometimes I tell myself that it’s a nightmare, that he will come back.“, he confides, modestly. He underlines the lack he feels since the departure of his father: “At the hospital, lately, he kept telling me to go back to Lille to study, but I didn’t want to leave him. I miss him so much.”

The 19-year-old young man now makes it his duty to be present for his loved ones and in particular for his mother, whom he knows is still plagued by the loss of the man of his life. He tries “to be more present for her“, of “come back on weekends” and “lcall more often than before”. And to continue:She is strong, works constantly in order perhaps to forget herself and not think about her absence. I know that life without him, alone in the house, even if his friend Muriel is present, is often unbearable.”.A boy close to his mother, especially as the disastrous birthday is fast approaching. A date that Nathalie Marquay particularly wishes to honor as she indicated to Tele-Leisure : “On March 2, we will meet with my children and we will stay together. I don’t know if I dread it, every day since his death is a day I dread. In reality, the whole month of February was complicated because it was the moment when he returned to the hospital. So I remember everything”, she confided to the weekly TV before concluding: “This whole month is horrible for me, and March 2… Yeah, it’s complicated”.
