A record of precocity. The youngest candidate for the 2024 general and technological baccalaureate is 9 years old, the Ministry of National Education announced on Friday June 7 during a press conference on the presentation of the baccalaureate. This student from the Strasbourg academy is the youngest candidate in the history of the exam. The young girl, who is of school age in CE2, is registered as a free candidate for the baccalaureate session, which starts on June 18 with the philosophy test.
In order to get back up to speed, the young candidate, who chose the mathematics and physics-chemistry specialties, recently took the “punctual tests, which correspond to continuous monitoring”, according to the ministry. Edouard Geffray, general director of school education, explained during the press briefing that the youngest candidates for the baccalaureate are “generally around 12 or 13 years old”.
For the 2024 edition of the baccalaureate, which brings together 728,164 candidates, the oldest registered applicant is 76 years old. He will take the general and technological baccalaureate at the Versailles academy.
