After two second places, including the infuriating one on Tuesday in Puy-de-Dôme, Wout van Aert won the 5th stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné 2022 in Chaintré, in Saône-et-Loire. The Belgian from Jumbo-Visma won in the sprint against Jordi Meeus and Ethan Hayter, at the end of the 162.3 kilometer race. Wout Van Aert consolidates his leader’s yellow jersey, now 1’03 ahead of the Italian Mattia Cattaneo and 1’06 over his teammate Primoz Roglic.
Wout Van Aert achieved his second success there since the start, four days after winning in the sprint in the inaugural stage in Beauchastel.

The breakaway resumed in the last kilometer
escape, in the lead until 800 meters from the finish, may have regrets of having looked at themselves. A situation that was fatal to them, despite the effort of Benjamin Thomas to go solo in the last hectometres, in vain. The quartet formed by the Belgian Jan Bakelants, the Austrian Sebastian Schönberger and the French Fabien Doubey and Benjamin Thomas had escaped after about thirty kilometers.
The last mile
This Friday, the 6th stage offers a course of 196.5 kilometers between Rives (Isère) and Gap (Hautes-Alpes). The road crosses two second category passes (Rousset, Cabre) at a distance from the finish.
