The writer Éric Chacour is crowned winner of the Booksellers Prize in France for his novel What I know about you. He thus becomes the second Quebecer to receive this distinction since its foundation, after Anne Hébert who won it in 1971 for Kamouraska.
Published in January 2023 by Éditions Alto in Quebec, this is Mr. Chacour’s first book. In France, his work was published by Éditions Philippe Rey.
From Cairo to Montreal, the novel traces Tarek’s journey. This doctor, who inherited his father’s practice, will have to exile himself from Egypt because of a forbidden love.
Born in Montreal to an Egyptian mother and father, the author said last year to Duty having drawn inspiration from its origins for this book.
“ [L’Égypte], it is therefore a country that I know well having been there around fifteen times, but the Egypt that I wanted to tell about is quite different from the one where I go on vacation or for business trips. It’s an Egypt that I reconstructed from the stories of my parents, their friends, the family I have there,” he said.
