The world of French judo is in shock after the release of the trainer and companion of champion Margaux Pinot, who accuses him of domestic violence. Teddy Riner and the president of the federation shared their outrage.
Judoka Margaux Pinot, Olympic team champion during the summer of 2020 and recently decorated with the Legion of Honor, accuses Alain Schmitt, her companion and trainer, of having hit her during the weekend. “I was insulted, punched, my head was hit on the ground several times”, she explains. Tuesday, November 30, the court of Bobigny (Seine-Saint-Denis), which tried Alain Schmitt in immediate appearance, released him.
The judges believe that they do not have enough proof of his guilt. “There were a certain number of elements in charge in this file which were not retained by the court”, deplores master Stéphane Maugendre, the judoka lawyer. For his part, the alleged perpetrator denies the facts. “He tried to flee the violence of Margaux Pinot, and it was she who held him back”, assures Master Malik Behloul, his lawyer.
