In Tasmania, members of the wildlife services examined Friday the carcasses of some 200 pilot dolphins, also called pilot whales, which were found dead after being stranded on a beach. Rescuers were also engaged in a race against time to save the last mammals still alive – less than a dozen, according to the authorities of the island state in southeastern Australia.
