The woman found dead in a fire in Quebec was apparently the victim of a homicide

The Quebec City Police Department has declared that the death of a woman found unconscious after a house fire on the weekend in the Loretteville sector is now considered a homicide.

The police affirm that all the investigative elements collected at the scene demonstrate that Joëlle Lapointe, aged 42, was the victim of a homicide. The exact cause of death will be determined after investigators receive the results of the autopsy, indicates the SPVQ.

Investigators from the SPVQ serious crimes unit and the forensic identification unit are on the scene to establish the circumstances surrounding the events, with the collaboration of investigators from the Fire Stations.

Mme Lapointe was found unconscious in the basement of a semi-detached house on Johnny-Parent Street, in the Loretteville area, around 2:32 a.m. Sunday night. The first rescuers were unable to resuscitate her and she was pronounced dead on the spot.

Fire investigators deemed the fire suspicious and contacted police.

The SPVQ asks that anyone with information on the death contact it at 418 641-AGIR (2447) or 1 888 641-AGIR for people outside Quebec.
