Since his sensational arrival on the American political scene, Donald J. Trump has continued to play the character of the victim against the incisive attacks of his adversaries, calling them witch hunts. According to Google, “victimization refers to the attitude by which a person poses as a victim with the conscious or unconscious aim of arousing a feeling of pity or guilt in others.”
However, where the problem is most acute is the fact that this comedy worthy of the great classics percolates with conviction among its supporters who persist in giving it their unconditional support. As proof, the unanimous decision of the twelve jurors in a criminal trial making Donald Trump a convict does not seem to in any way reduce his lead in the race for the presidency of the United States.
On the contrary, this conviction further arouses the sympathy of his troops who see it as a witch hunt on the part of his detractors. The image of the victim instantly takes center stage without firing a shot.
However, how can we explain this surreal phenomenon? In my opinion, a large portion of American voters, particularly Republicans, are trapped in a Western scenario where Trump plays the role of the “good guy” against the “bad” Democrats. There is no doubt that this strategy is paying off. To this end, whatever sentence Trump is sentenced to, his fans will continue to support him until November 5, 2024.
