The white shadows | Another book by Dominique Fortier in the running for a French prize

Just launched in France by Grasset editions, The white shadows by Dominique Fortier is on the preliminary list of the Cazes prize, a literary award given every year since 1935 at the Brasserie Lipp, in the famous Saint-Germain-des-Prés district of Paris.


The Quebec writer finds herself alongside, among others, Jérôme Garcin, Andreï Makine, Véronique Ovalde and Patrick Besson.

Dominique Fortier is currently in France to promote this book which is in a way the continuation of paper townswhich focused on the life and work of the American poet Emily Dickinson, and which won her the Renaudot essay prize in 2020.

The white shadowswhich was a finalist for the Governor General’s Award last fall, was launched first in Quebec in March 2022 at Alto.

The Cazes prize comes with a purse of 4,000 euros (about $5,700), and the finalists will be announced on February 14.
