Hospitalizations in intensive care linked to Covid-19 have increased by around 50 patients in the past 24 hours. The pressure is mounting on hospitals, so that six regions have launched their white plan.
As in Bordeaux (Gironde), Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), Montpellier (Hérault) or Toulouse (Haute-Garonne), several dozen hospitals have now gone under the blank plan. In one month, the number of people hospitalized due to Covid-19 has skyrocketed, reaching more than 13,000 patients. So hospitals are anticipating. In Amiens (Somme), additional beds have just opened to accommodate all the sick. “We are at 65 today, and 11 out of 15 patients in intensive care”, specifies Catherine Latger, director of the Compiègne-Noyon hospital center (Oise).
In less than a week, seven regions activated their white plan. The Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, indicated on the set of 4 Vérités Thursday, December 9 that it should probably extend to the national level “in a few days”. In the Bas-Rhin, in Haguenau, the hospital center has been reorganized. The multipurpose doctor’s service has been transformed into an exceptional Covid unit: 29 beds have been installed, and some caregivers are requisitioned. The white plan makes it possible to increase reception capacity, to deprogram non-emergency operations and to recall caregivers on their leave. More than a year and a half after the start of the pandemic, doctors and nurses fear exhaustion.
