Faced with sustained activity, the Lille University Hospital announces that it is launching a blank plan as of this Friday, December 3. The measure was decided after several debates in the crisis unit, to cope with the increase in patient admissions.
The combination of the resumption of the epidemic and a sustained non-covid activity
“This white plan already concerns several establishments in the Lille metropolitan area“, explains Patrick Goldstein, head of the SAMU du Nord and head of emergencies at the Lille University Hospital. “This is linked to significant pressure from non-covid activities, in medicine as well as in intensive care. And at the same time, the incidence of Covid is increasing. We already know that there will be an increase in the next two weeks, three weeks. . We must therefore prepare to welcome these new patients. “
This Friday, 50 patients with Covid are hospitalized, including 26 in intensive care and the flow has been increasing for several days.
Special organizational measures
At this stage, the CHU does not decide to deprogram non-urgent operations. The white plan makes it possible to reorganize services quickly and to mobilize the necessary personnel. External recruitments are underway and the CHU will also call on health students and recently retired professionals, if necessary.
A call for vigilance and responsibility
The CHU also calls for vigilance and responsibility and stresses that vaccination remains the only way out of the epidemic. “In our intensive care units, there are mostly unvaccinated patients. There are a few patients who did not have time to receive the third dose, who have immunosuppressions.” There is therefore no possible discussion according to Patrick Goldstein: “Vaccination protects against serious forms and hospitalization. This is a very good thing for patients, but also for hospital staff.”
The emergency manager reminds us: we must, more than ever, respect essential gestures such as wearing a mask, as we enter the winter period and spend more time indoors.
