The composer won the prize during the Creative Arts Emmy gala, organized at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Thanks to the work of Cristobal Tapia de Veer, The white lotus (in original English version, The White Lotus) preceded 1883 (Paramount+), Moon Knight (Disney+), A Very British Scandal (Prime Video) and Station Eleven (HBO). The category highlights the excellence of composers of a musical score for a miniseries, an anthology series or a film.

Composed of six one-hour episodes and presented in 2021, the first season of white lotus chronicles the highly unpredictable and singular stay of a group of wealthy vacationers in a Hawaiian resort. Omnipresent, the heady score of Cristobal Tapia de Veer, alias Cristo, punctuates the scenes and installs an anxiety-provoking climate that several critics have praised.

The Press spoke to Cristobal Tapia de Veer last fall. The multi-instrumentalist of Chilean origin had revealed that with The White Lotus, the goal was to create a “tropical anxiety”. “The music had to give a sense of danger as if there was going to be a sacrifice. [L’auteur, réalisateur et créateur] Mike White wanted her to announce something dangerous, something a bit Hitchcock,” explained the artist, who has produced albums for several Quebec artists, including Mario Pelchat, Alfa Rococo, Véronic DiCaire and Bran Van. 3000.

The Creative Arts Emmy ceremony served as a kind of aperitif for the Primetime Emmy Awards, which will be broadcast on Monday, September 12 on ABC and CTV.

The second season of white lotus is expected in October on Crave.
