It was a strange game that made the difference with just over five minutes to go. A Kennedy Marchment shot deflected so goalie Tricia Deguire was foiled by a butterfly shot that went over her glove before finding the top corner of the net.

The Force had however shown resilience by twice erasing the visitors’ lead. Sarah Lefort and Kaity Howarth were the two players to lift the crowd, the second seeing her shot slip gently before narrowly crossing the goal line.

Originally from Sept-Îles, Ann-Sophie Bettez obtained an assist in this game. She had made the difference the day before in a 4-3 win by being the only scorer in a shootout against the same team.

Whale keeper Abbie Ives certainly had a say in Sunday’s rematch. She made 35 saves, notably depriving Lefort of a certain goal in the third period by swallowing a shot while she was lying on the ice.

The Montreal club will now enjoy a moment of respite since it will only resume action on December 17. He will face the Minnesota Whitecaps for the occasion twice in as many days.
