The pandemic has pushed many French people to change their lives, resulting in several real estate booms. According to a survey by the JDD, the good life is found in particular in Angers, which tops the list of cities that are sources of tranquility. More generally, it is the West that is acclaimed.
Is it the sea air, the landscapes or the beauty of Saint-Malo (Ille-et-Vilaine) that so appeals to these thousands of French people? They have chosen a calmer life, like a young couple who have lived for six years in the tranquility of the Emerald Coast. “It’s more pleasant, we can walk, we are next to the sea”, said the young woman. Like them, Sandrine Lemaire left the city for a more peaceful life. After twenty years spent in Île-de-France, she set up her business in Saint-Malo three months ago. No regrets, since then, it resumes colors.
A few kilometers further, the town of Dinan (Côtes-d’Armor), 14,000 souls, is experiencing the same phenomenon. More and more people from big cities are moving there. A course that this family of Ile-de-France residents has not yet crossed, but the temptation is great. “We would like, now that we have a child, to be able to come to the great outdoors, in a region that is much more attractive”, says a passerby. Calmer, warmer, more human, these towns in the west of France offer many reasons to join them.
