Canadian singer The Weeknd never stops breaking records. On Tuesday, he became the first artist in history to reach the milestone of 100 million monthly listeners on the Spotify platform.
Already record holder since January (with 94.734 million), the performer of the song nothing is lost is single-handedly rewriting Spotify’s record books. His participation in the original soundtrack of the film Avatar 2 partly explain this immense success.
For comparison, Drake currently attracts 68.6 million monthly listeners on Spotify, while Taylor Swift can count on 80.3 million followers on the same platform.
Moreover, the song Blinding Lights, released in November 2019, is the most streamed of all time on the streaming platform. At the beginning of January, the title exceeded 3.34 billion plays. The artist’s presence at the Super Bowl halftime show in 2021 would have greatly inflated this statistic.
