The long weekend of May 8 alone represents more than a third of reservations for the month of May (37.6%), according to a study by PAP Vacances, exclusively revealed by franceinfo on Tuesday April 23. The level of reservations this weekend of May 8 is also higher than that of May 1 (+44.1%).

This year, the four public holidays in May fall in the middle of the week, which allows employees to take advantage of two or three long weekends. Indeed, by taking days off on May 2, 3 or even 10, they can extend the weekends of May 4-5 and May 11-12.

According to the study, this is explained by the French’s “distrust” of the weather. To promote the possibility of good weather, the French therefore seem to favor “furthest weekend, but also closest to summer”.

Three quarters of stays made over the long weekend of May 8 (76.5%) will take place at the seaside. Stays in the countryside represent 11.6% of reservations for this period, ahead of those in the mountains. (6.4%) and abroad (5.5%). The most popular regions this weekend of May 8 are in the northern half of the country: the departments of Vendée and Charente-Maritime come out on top with 10.2 and 10.1% of market shares respectively. , followed by Morbihan (10.1%), Calvados (8.2%) and Côtes-d’Armor (6.7%).
