Gabriel Attal brings together his ministers on Wednesday March 27 for a seminar on work. The Prime Minister will talk about unemployment insurance, but one point will be devoted to the new aspirations of the French for work, and in particular to the four-day week. The guiding idea remains to enable employees to better articulate their personal and professional lives, to meet the expectations of new generations and also of those who cannot telework. On the menu, there is therefore a four-day week and not four days, because the objective is not to work less but to work differently.
When he was Minister of the Budget, Gabriel Attal launched experiments on the four-day week. He wants to extend them more widely. Proof of this is the framework letter sent last week to the general management of the civil service. The objective is also to encourage private companies to test the four-day week.
Unions vigilant but not opposed
The unions say “why not”, but remain vigilant because, for example, in the framework letter, it is mentioned that the RTT system could be modified, that agents could be required to give up RTT days, this which obviously makes you cringe. The CGT fears that this four-day week will be a way of intensifying work and pressurizing people. Not to mention that barely more than a million civil servants would be affected out of the five and a half million. For the moment, this system would only apply to part of the state civil service, but would not concern law enforcement or teachers.
Gabriel Attal also talks about a week in four days for divorced parents. The Prime Minister returned to this a little, explaining that it would not only be for separated people. His idea is a system of “alternating” weeks, one where we work more, another where we work fewer hours. Employers are rather reluctant and see this idea as a real headache!
The government also wants to use Artificial Intelligence to improve working conditions, alleviate certain repetitive and difficult tasks. The executive will launch a reflection on the adaptations of the world of work to Artificial Intelligence. The Prime Minister, who will be on the 8 p.m. news on TF1 on Wednesday evening, does not want to only be the bearer of bad news, only mentioning the reduction in spending, which is slipping, or the next insurance reform. unemployment, which will be less generous. He also wants to be positive, listening to the new aspirations of the French.
