The municipality of Ham-sous-Varsberg, 2,800 inhabitants, has acquired some twenty hectares of land around the Escherbruch pond located within the Sensitive Natural Area of ​​the Marais de the Heide. This approach consisted of carrying out an ecological diagnosis of the site. He revealed the presence of 150 species of birds, some of which are remarkable (star bittern, marsh harrier, shepherd dog…), 12 species of dragonflies and damselflies. Flora typical of the region’s wetlands has also been identified. This inventory led to the development of a management plan with the guideline of allowing all uses (walking, fishing, etc.) while conserving the site as naturally as possible so that it can fully play its role as a reserve. of biodiversity and a crossing point for migrating birds.
