The holding company owning the English team Wasps announced, Monday, October 17, its placement in receivership, which should lead to the relegation of the Premiership club, already suspended from all competition last Wednesday by the federation.
“Wasps Holdings Limited was placed in receivership on October 17, 2022 and immediately ceased trading”, indicates a press release from the English club, in the grip of serious financial difficulties and in search of a buyer for several weeks. The club were unable to face Exeter last weekend and had won only one game in four league meetings since the start of the season.

Two administrators have been appointed and, “unfortunately, (they) were forced to immediately lay off 167 employees, including all members of the workforce and staff”said the Premiership in a separate press release. “We remain in discussions with interested parties and we are confident that an agreement can be reached to allow Wasps to continue”explained for his part Andrew Sheridan, one of the administrators, quoted in the same press release.
The Wasps, winners of the Champions Cup twice and the Challenge Cup once, were involved in the Challenge Cup this season, which begins in December. In particular, they had to face Aviron Bayonnais.
