The warehouses of the Isère federation of Secours populaire were burglarized in Échirolles, in Isère, the night of Saturday December 23 to Sunday December 24, reports France Bleu Isère this Sunday December 24. The association filed a complaint with the Grenoble police station and deplores damage of between 300,000 and 400,000 euros.
All of the association’s donations and collections were searched, boxes containing clothes, toys and even household appliances were ripped open. Secours populaire estimated damage of 300,000 euros. The Grenoble prosecutor confirms the filing of a complaint for “break-in theft”.
Two brand new vans were also stripped, the engines missing, as well as the rear doors. The association estimates this loss at 110,000 euros, in addition to the 300,000 euros in damage for the theft of equipment to be donated.
“It’s carnage. I don’t have the words“, deplores Nabil Chetouf, the secretary general of Secours populaire en Isère, to France Bleu Isère. “They did their shopping, they wasted, they threw everything on the ground. If anyone has an ounce of humanity, they can’t do that, it’s impossible”adds Nabil Chetouf.
“We won’t be able to get back on track”
Because of this burglary, the Secours populaire d’Isère will not be able to make the donations expected by 30,000 Isère beneficiaries.
“We won’t be able to get back on track”, adds Nabile Chetouf. He calls out “the department, the region, the town halls”from which he expects “ugly”. The Échirolles town hall is organizing a money collection in the town hall premises this Tuesday.
Despite the burglary, the association assures supported families that its spaces remain open.
