Faced with soaring food prices, the government is putting pressure on large retailers to resume negotiations with farmers and manufacturers. The journalist Dorothée Lachaudpresent on the set of 19/20, looks back on these negotiations.
“On March 1, farmers, manufacturers and large retailers had recorded a 3% increase “in food products”explains journalist Dorothée Lachaudpresent on the set of 19/20. “But in the meantime, the war in Ukraine broke out, and that made the situation worse. This is immediately felt in the courses: +40% for wheat, +50% for sunflower oil”continues Dorothy Lachaud.
These increases should benefit “first of all to farmers, who are obviously bearing the brunt of this soaring cost, but also to agri-food manufacturers. Them, they evoke risks of rupture of production, even bankruptcies by the end of the year, in particular for the smallest companies, which are most fragile. They are therefore calling for price increases that would be between 8 and 10%“, concludes the journalist.
