Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen court the electorate of Jean-Luc Mélenchon, more than 7 million votes. Teams from France Télévisions went to meet them on Friday, April 15.
The cities of Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône) and Avignon (Vaucluse) placed Jean-Luc Mélenchon well ahead in the first round of the presidential election. The voters of rebellious France are now wondering who to vote for in the second round. Some recognize, half-word, that their ballot could go for Marine Le Pen. “We had five years of Macron, if we could try something else…”says one of them. “Maybe, why not Marine Le Pen. We will try change”argues another.
Others already know that they will block the National Rally. “By lucidity, and by conviction not to pass the extreme right”, reveals a voter. Nine days before the second round, a majority of Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s supporters still feel lost. “I don’t find myself in this second round at all, I don’t understand, and I don’t want to vote for the worst”, explains a woman. In the premises of insubordinate France in Marseille, activists are considering voting for Emmanuel Macron, but say they are difficult to convince. “His economic, social, ecological program is not the majority in this country. If he does not hear it, I am very, very afraid of the result in the second round”believes Karim Khelfaoui.
