This Saturday February 19, 2022, TF1 broadcast a new episode of The Voice devoted to blind auditions. Among the Talents to have marched on stage, Tom Lowe did not go unnoticed. This 43-year-old Englishman who came straight from Manchester is far from being a music lover. And for good reason, he already has a great career behind him.
Indeed, in his portrait broadcast before he went on stage, Tom explains that he was immersed in music since his earliest childhood, when he was part of the choir of a church with his two brothers and his sister. He took a more rock’n’roll turn at 18 by starting his own group with his friends, Lee Otter, James Hurst and Sam Chapman. A group called North and South. Tom Lowe played keyboard, saxophone and sang of course. The band rose to prominence with their debut single titled I’m a Man Not a Boy released in 1997, which peaked at number seven on the UK’s top charts that year.
They cultivated their budding notoriety by landing their own show, No Sweatshirt. It was a short series of nine episodes that chronicled their group life in a fictional and comedic way. Each week, more than 2 million viewers were there in front of their screens. Tom Lowe had composed the original soundtrack for the program himself. During this period, North and South even had the opportunity to the first parts of the Spice Girls concerts as Tom Lowe points out. Unfortunately, after only two years, and weakened by internal disputes, the group broke up.
Tom Lowe for his part continued to evolve in the world of music, notably by playing the main roles of award-winning English musicals Wretched and Cats. It is also not his first tele-hook since in 2007, he participated in the sixth season ofamerican idol, becoming the program’s first non-U.S. contestant. But for the past eight years, it has been on cruise ships that he has shared his talents with the public. With The VoiceTom Lowe hopes to finally stabilize and conquer the French.
