The animal, which had bitten an elected official, was caught in the green spaces of Congress Hill late Tuesday afternoon. The gopil had bitten nine people, including an elected official. The presence of foxes in Washington and U.S. cities isn’t unusual, but they generally avoid humans, according to local environmental officials.
The health authorities of the American capital announced on Wednesday that they had “humanely euthanized” the vixen, an adult female, to be screened for rabies. A few hours later, they announced that the animal had been “tested positive for the virus”. Health authorities “are in the process of contacting all the people who have been bitten”they point out.
