“The Vincent Lambert affair is a Greek tragedy”

While the writers’ strike in Hollywood risks having a long-term impact on American platforms, Pauline Dauvin, head of French productions at Disney+, gives an initial assessment of the five productions launched in 2022 and explains why she produced a documentary series in four episodes which retraces the Vincent Lambert affair: “Lambert against Lambert” which is released on Wednesday May 10 on the platform.

After “Oussekine” a series reenacting the death of young student Malik Oussekine released a year ago, “Week-end Family”, the comic and family series with Eric Judor, Pauline Dauvin, vice-president of Disney+ in France in charge of programming, original productions and acquisitions has produced “Lambert against Lambert”, a documentary series in four episodes which chronicles the Vincent Lambert affair.

For “Lambert against Lambert”, journalist Elodie Buzuel met and interviewed almost all the speakers, Vincent Lambert’s mother before his disappearance last December, his lawyers and Vincent Lambert’s wife. For Pauline Dauvin it was obvious that this series had to be produced: “Firstly, because it’s an absolutely incredible, breathtaking story, which completely blows your mind. We have all the ingredients, I want to say, of a Greek tragedy. It’s a Homeric battle within of a family between Rachel Lambert, Vincent’s wife, and Viviane Lambert, his mother. And this battle about the end of life of one of them, Vincent. It will last more than ten years. But this series does not was not produced to respond to a news since we commissioned it more than two years ago now.”

In the absence of an agreement, thousands of American television and film screenwriters will go on strike on Tuesday May 2, their union announced, after the failure of negotiations with the main studios and platforms relating in particular to an increase in their remuneration. This strike by Hollywood screenwriters does not scare Pauline Dauvin too much for the Disney+ offer: “We obviously have a very rich, very diversified offer, but we also have an offer that comes from National Geographic. And then an absolutely exceptional program inventory. So this strike, I don’t know how it will affect us, but in any case, I can say that the platform will continue to launch original titles and in particular French productions, including ‘Lambert against Lambert’.”
