Without knowing it, the film “Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis” helped to energize the entire northern region even more. After the box of the feature film in the cinema 15 years ago, Bergues, where it was shot, was stormed by tourists for several months. A success of which we still find traces.

15 years after Dany Boon’s film, Bergues (Nord) still lives on in the memory of Welcome to the Ch’tis. The star now is the real factor of the town. “I think I’m the most famous postman in France, I think, still much in demand by tourists. It’s pleasant”, comments Franck Gombert. The house of Marc Bourel, first deputy mayor of Bergues, served as the backdrop.

Very significant benefits for Bergues

The fallout was very significant after the release of the film. Bergues was immediately overrun with tourists. “The phenomenon is still current. There are people who come from everywhere, especially from all over France but beyond the borders, the Belgians, the Germans… We had Brazilians, Japanese too”, reports Marc Bourel. A dozen tourists came for the “Ch’ti Tour”, a visit to Bergues punctuated with anecdotes about the filming of the film. The “Café de la Poste” proudly displays the memories of 15 years ago, and rejoices in the enthusiasm that still exists today.
