“It’s catastrophic.” Like many, Sami Nouri is moved by the fate of Mahsa Amini, young Iranian Kurd, deceased
after having “badly worn her Islamic veil” according to the morality police. Sami Nouri, now a great fashion designer, is from Afghanistan. He was abandoned alone at Tours station (Indre-et-Loire) by his smuggler in 2010, when he was only 14 years old. During his exile with his family to flee the Afghan Taliban, Sami Nouri lived for nine years in Tehranthe Iranian capital, from 5 to 14 years old.
“We were not well received [avec ma famille]. It was hardremembers the young man of 26 years. There is no freedom, there are only bad memories.” He pursues : “It’s not from yesterday. Today a young woman is killed by the police, it’s catastrophic.”
The death of this young woman will perhaps make the history of the freedom of the country, for women. On the one hand, I am sad about what is happening and on the other hand, happy that the people are standing.
Give women the right to all clothes
In his creations to dress women, Sami Nouri is inspired by his time in Tehran, the chador in particular – traditional Iranian clothing. “Men have the right to do everything but women must wear the clothes as men say, he says of his experience as a child in Iran.
“I just hope that the people will succeed, that women will be able to regain their freedom”, wishes Sami Nouri. Touraine associations also carry this message since October 1, 2022. Various events are organized in support of Iranian men and women in the city.
