A meeting “very constructive” was held on Wednesday July 10 in Châteaulin on the future of the Vieilles Charrues festival, announced its president Jean-Luc Martin at its conclusion, promising that there would indeed be a 2025 edition in Carhaix, in Finistère.
“It was a very constructive meeting and everyone was keen to move things forward,” said Jean-Luc Martin, leaving the meeting at the Finistère sub-prefecture, which lasted more than two hours on Wednesday morning. “We are reassured”, he acknowledged, while tensions with the mayor of Carhaix (various left) Christian Troadec threatened the future of the festival, the 32nd edition of which begins Thursday July 11, 2024.
Asked by the press, the president of the festival confirmed that there would indeed be a 33rd edition in July 2025 in Carhaix. “And then, if we manage to wrap up everything that was said, we will stay in Carhaix. And we will be very proud to stay in Carhaix, and that is what we have been saying all along,” Mr. Martin added.
The mediation meeting brought together in particular the president of the Brittany region (ex-PS) Loïg Chesnais-Girard, the mayor of Carhaix, the president of the department (various right) Maël de Calan and the prefect of Finistère Alain Espinasse. “Everyone agrees that the Vieilles Charrues festival should remain in Carhaix,” confirmed the prefect at the end of the meeting, indicating that solutions were being developed. A next meeting is to be held on October 15, “time to work, since there is a little bit of work, particularly in the legal aspects”, added the prefect.
