The Maritimes won a second title in a row in Europe’s most prestigious rugby competition on Saturday.
La Rochelle does double duty! Abused at the start of the game, Ronan O’Gara’s players gradually returned to the game and finally win (27-26), Saturday May 20, at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin and retain their European title. Very quickly led 17-0 after a disastrous start to the match, the Rochelais showed incredible strength of character to overthrow Leinster.
Led by a pack of very dominant forwards, La Rochelle regained control of the match to build their comeback. Finally passed in front of the score by a try from Georges Henri Colombe in the 72nd minute, the teammates of Antoine Hastoy, author of a 100% on foot (5/5), scared themselves by conceding a yellow card and suffering in their 22 m in stride. But taking advantage of crippling errors from Leinster in the dying seconds, the Rochelais were finally able to let their joy burst at the final whistle.
