It’s a terrifying video that has gone viral. We see a soldier, taken prisoner, pronounce these words: “Glory to Ukraine”, and be shot on the spot. The Ukrainian authorities claim to have identified him. He was reportedly captured in early February, near Bakhmout. kyiv promises to avenge him.
He is a standing man, who looks into the eyes those who are going to execute him. This image is taken from a video, of which the journalists of France Télévisions reveal the first five seconds. A Russian soldier asks the prisoner to tear off the Ukrainian insignia from his uniform. The prisoner then draws on his cigarette and launches: “Glory to Ukraine”, before falling under a burst of automatic weapons. Killing an armed prisoner in cold blood is a war crime. The video was posted from a Russian account on Monday evening March 6.
7,000 Ukrainian soldiers missing
Tuesday, March 7, in the morning, the teams of France Télévisions were with artillerymen on the front, near Bakhmout. They had all seen their comrade’s video. “I consider him a hero. You must have the strength to look death in the face, hold your head up high and not lose your dignity”, said a Ukrainian soldier. The soldier’s name was Tymofiy Mykolayovych Shadura. He had been missing for four days in Bakhmout, where he had been fighting with his brigade since December. According to the kyiv authorities, there are still 7,000 Ukrainian soldiers missing.
