The victory of Geert Wilders’ far-right Islamophobic Dutch party, which came well ahead of the legislative elections on Wednesday in the Netherlands, is a sign of a “awakening of nations in Europe who want to live free”, reacted on franceinfo Philippe Ballard, spokesperson for the National Rally (RN) and deputy for the 2nd constituency of Oise, Thursday November 23.

Franceinfo: What is your reaction this evening, after yesterday’s victory of Geert Wilders’ far-right party in the Netherlands, during the legislative elections?

Philippe Ballard: We say bravo, it shows that our ideas are progressing throughout Europe. It is the awakening of nations, of peoples who want to live free, that is to say not under the influence of uncontrolled immigration, of an increasingly obese Europe, which quite simply suffocates European peoples.

So with this support for Geert Wilders and his ideas, you are far right?

We have never been far-right. The far right, for example, is February 6, 1934 [manifestation antiparlementaire devant la Chambre des députés par des groupes de droite et d’extrême droite]. We have never contested the election results. So we are not far right. We debate, we exchange ideas. So then, what does Geert Wilders do? It should be remembered that her campaign is also focused on the theme of purchasing power, which Marine Le Pen put in first position in September 2021 before the presidential campaign. And then also on immigration, Islamization. And he challenges the European Union as it is today. Geert Wilders is an ally, we are not looking for clones, either.

Geert Wilders promises a binding referendum on the Netherlands’ exit from the European Union. For the RN, is there a question of a Frexit?

We want to change the European Union from the inside. Concretely, there are two possibilities: there are elections on June 9, I invite everyone to vote for our list, which will make it possible to change this technocratic and obese European Union, from the inside. And then if we come to power in 2027, and there is a good chance that we will, we will take up the program of Marine Le Pen, who organized a referendum on immigration, which asked questions in particular on family reunification, on naturalization, how one becomes French. If we do not understand that if we do not change our Constitution on these specific points of immigration, we will not be masters of our home. We must respect the people.
