As part of the investigation into the discovery of a dismembered female body in an apartment in Niort (Deux-Sèvres), the victim’s partner was indicted on Wednesday, July 10, for murder by a person who is or has been a partner related to the victim, an attack on the integrity of a corpse and modification of the scene of a crime, the Poitiers prosecutor’s office announced in a press release. The suspect was placed in pretrial detention.
The partial autopsy carried out on the body allowed the victim to be identified, although the causes of death have not yet been determined. Death “would go back several days”writes the prosecution, which specifies that “multiple investigations will be carried out in order to reconstruct the sequence of events and to find the other parts of the deceased’s body (head and torso).”
On Monday, a man was arrested in Paris, suspected of killing his wife and dismembering her body. According to a source close to the case, the woman is a victim of domestic violence who had been reported missing for a week. The police showed up at her home, where they came across a man who was on the landing of the apartment. In his bag, the police discovered the body parts of a woman. This man then explained that he had been contacted by the victim’s partner who asked him to retrieve and then leave the bag in a cellar. He was released and cleared of all charges.
The husband, suspected of the crime, faces life imprisonment. The couple’s three young children have been placed in care.
