Alpes-Maritimes: the Vésubie valley once again victim of flooding
(France 2)

The Vésubie valley (Alpes-Maritimes) is once again facing violent floods which have washed away bridges and caused damage to homes.

Rivers are uncontrollable across the Vésubie valley after torrential rains. Residents are once again finding themselves hit hard by floods. On the heights of the village of Saint-Martin-Vésubie (Alpes-Maritimes), around fifty people found themselves stranded by this sudden rise in water and had to be evacuated. The firefighters and gendarmes guided them to hotels in the village. Access is complicated with temporary bridges which are submerged.

On his X account (formerly Twitter), Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin took stock of the situation: “Significant rainfall is underway in the Alpes-Maritimes, particularly in the Vésubie valley, causing significant flooding. Bridges were washed away, several homes evacuated. The authorities and emergency services are fully mobilized.” Images that recall the memory of 2020 and the death of 10 people in the face of rising waters.
