The vehicle of ex-boxer David Lemieux set on fire

A vehicle belonging to ex-boxer David Lemieux was set on fire in front of his residence in Laval, on the night of Friday to Saturday.

Around 3 a.m. on Saturday, “neighbours called after there were explosions,” said Lieutenant Steve Leboeuf of the Laval Police Service (SPL).

The vehicle, a black Mercedes-Benz, suffered severe front end damage. He was parked on rue des Alismas, in the Sainte-Dorothée district. The event did not damage any nearby property and no one was injured.

For the moment, the origin of this fire is unknown. Investigators studied the scene on the spot and continue their search at the present time.

No arrests have been made and there is still no suspect identified by the police in this case, said Lieutenant Leboeuf.

In August 2022, the father of the former boxing champion, André Fernand Lemieux, was shot dead in Montreal. He was reportedly randomly targeted by Abdulla Shaikh, a 26-year-old mentally ill man who suffered a total of three victims before being shot dead by authorities.

David Lemieux, 34, went 43-5 professionally between 2007 and 2022. He was briefly the IBF World Middleweight Champion in 2015.
