The Conference of Bishops of France (CEF) called, Monday March 4, “to fasting and prayer”; while deputies and senators meet in Congress at the Palace of Versailles to include voluntary termination of pregnancy (IVG) in the Constitution. A few minutes before the Congress opened, the Vatican reiterated its opposition to all “right to take human life”, in a press release published by the Pontifical Academy for Life, the Vatican body responsible for bioethical questions.

“Our country would have honored itself by including the promotion of the rights of women and children. Of all European countries”, affirms a press release signed in particular by the president of the CEF, Eric de Moulins-Beaufort. “Let us pray above all that our fellow citizens will rediscover the taste for life, for giving it, for receiving it, for accompanying it, for having and raising children”, thus affirm the bishops. The press release emphasizes that “as Catholics, we will always have to remain servants of the life of each and every one, from conception to death”.

The bishops express their desire to “support those who choose to keep their child even in difficult situations” and D’“Surrounded by [leur] respect and [leur] compassion for those who have resorted to abortion”. A few hours before the Congress meeting, they deplored that “many of our parliamentarians, no doubt, will vote for this text with the conviction of affirming an essential right” but that “some, quite numerous in fact, will vote for it ashamed and forced”.
